About This Blog: What to Expect

    Hello all!

I'm Alex, but online I also often go by Space as well, short for SpacePioneer.

This page is meant as a guide for what to expect here, I'll have another page about me specifically.

I am interested in a LOT of things. That becomes obvious very quickly considering how I plan to run this blog, so before I even get into specifics it's probably best if I point out the point of this place. However, if you're not interested in why I'm here and just want to know what this place is all about, feel free to skip this next section.

I want to share my daily goings-on in a longer form way than I feel comfortable doing so on other platforms. Twitter threads are rather clunky, and I prefer to keep my Facebook usage to a minimum. Discord could have worked but my posts wouldn't have been as shareable, and sharing longer texts on there tends to be kind of clunky too, just not as much as Twitter. Reddit also could have worked, but even that I don't feel would be a good format for what I want to do.
I felt as if starting a blog would be a good way to centralize my retellings of the things I do, and works surprisingly well for the format I want to go for. I say all this because I have no idea if what I'm going to be doing is anything like a typical blog, and perhaps that's a good thing.
The exact way I format things will probably change, this About page will probably change. Because I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm going to have to just try things and find out what works, and with that strategy, I'll eventually work out the best way to go about this for me and anyone that decides to check out what I've been up to.

With all that out of the way, it's about time I start giving some specifics about what I'm into and what I'll be talking about here. One key point to keep in mind for all of these, is that space, science, technology and science fiction have made their way into basically every facet of my interests. It's a bit of an anomaly when I'm into something that doesn't involve them in some way, and there's usually some reason.

Art

Probably the most straightforward thing I'll be posting. The art I usually do is of astronomical objects (Stars, planets, black holes, nebulae, etc.) I create spaceships less often, and I never include people in my work beyond certain circumstances.
I'm going to have to work out whether I want to post WIPs or just completed art, but regardless, there tend to be six types of art I work on, which I may post:

1). Pastel Art. I do chalk pastel and chalk pastel pencil drawings on occasion, sometimes using a bit of marker to make shadows more precise/intense. I don't yet have a good way to image these, though, so I'm not sure how often I'll actually be posting about these. Figured that I should mention them though.
2). Digital paintings. I haven't been doing as many of these as I used to, but I like to do drawings/paintings digitally "by hand" (often literally, though there are some shapes and stuff I let the computer do, but I still have to direct the composition of those elements) Due to the way the brushes interact compared to how pastel/pastel pencil works, these tend to have quite a different style. And that goes for all these mediums, they look very different because the process of making them is different.
3). Pixel Art. I also do pixel art, in a similar way to how I do digital paintings, just with more of a focus on the pixel-level detail obviously.
4). 3D Renderings. These are what I tend to work on most, and are actually the highest effort art that I do, spending hours to get the shot right rather than 1-2 that I usually spend on pastel drawings and maybe a bit more for digital paintings. It also requires a lot more stages of WIP before I call it complete. Due to the extra WIP stages and the overall amount of them that I do and effort I spend with them, I'll probably be talking most about them.
5). AI Art. I have a lot of ways of doing this that I won't get into (individual posts will involve the specifics) but I often make art and other images with AI.
6). Maps. As part of the worldbuilding I do (more about that later) maps are very nice to have. However given that my settings focus on space, having a 3D map is rather difficult, so most of the mapping I do is just planetary surfaces.

There are other things that I make as well, but less often and are harder to quantify. When I feel like posting those, I will explain them in the posts themselves.

Music

I'm both a fan and a musician myself!

I plan to make a YouTube playlist to specifically collect the music I like/listen to often, but I haven't started on that. When it's available I'll be putting it in the "Links" page. That thing will be very long, I like a lot of music! However, I will state that my favorite band of all is Starset!
As for my own music, it's a mix of ambient, orchestral, electronic, synthwave/darksynth, and often has a soundtrack sort of feel. Depending on the song or album, that soundtrack feel can be either sci-fi movie soundtrack, or video game soundtrack. I'll have places on the Links page you can go to find my music, but really you can find it at whatever your favorite music streaming platform, under the name Iris Celestialis.

Writing

I'm also a writer, mostly of short stories, but I also have a long history of poetry and have attempted several novels, haven't gotten very far on any due to problems that have come up.

Worldbuilding

As a writer, you kind of have to do some amount of worldbuilding, even if it's just to show the specific situation within a world that is essentially our own. I do...a lot more than that, to say the least. I enjoy worldbuilding even for its own sake, and many say that that makes it useless, and that's fine. I don't feel like it's useless and some amount of people will also see the inherent value in it as an art form, and I aim to share my work with those people. I do like to set stories in the settings I create but that isn't necessarily why they exist.

The most extensive setting I've created is one I call A Sophon's Cosmos, which contains several of my writing projects in one rather gigantic timeline. I'm even considering adding branching timelines to include some other story ideas I've got. The timeline stretches from an alt-future 21st century to the last star (as we would know them) in what becomes of our local group of galaxies. And someday it may reach even further, if I can think up some situations with black hole civilizations and perhaps even iron star ones.

Physics

I suppose that leads me to tie some things together here - a lot of things I'm interested in revolve around sci-fi, space, and technology. That's because I have, for the longest time, been interested in space specifically. That lead me into astrophysics, and also into chemistry on some level, which quickly spiraled into quantum physics. This is why I labeled this section physics, as for a very long time now I've been interested in both astrophysics and quantum physics, and the range of subjects relevant to them, which has gotten me some understanding of quite a lot of science in general.

I'm not exactly sure what I'll be posting directly related to physics in any variety, but I figure even if I don't, it's still good to mention here as it gives background and is something I'm interested in and so will probably appear here in some form.

Video Games

There's quite a few games that I play, almost all are space games or are at least are sci-fi. There is one notable exception though, and is probably the most significant thing I'm into that doesn't involve space or sci-fi - Minecraft! And I have certainly made the most of it. When I play MC, I mostly focus on huge projects of some form, essentially the MC equivalent of the megastructures advanced civilizations could build in space. Well...I guess that's the link to space for that too? Haha.

Filmmaking

That's the best term I can give for this. I really haven't started actually making short films like I'd like to, but I have many ideas. All would essentially be music videos but act as short films. The reason for this is that when listening to the music that I do, I often get my own short film playing in my head, and I would like to make these a reality. For now, I write them down to perhaps make them later when I can.

Programming

In recent times, I've found many reasons to begin a new interest, that being programming. As of now, I am still in the early stages of learning, but as I learn and start to apply my knowledge I'll be posting the results.

Horror

I'm also interested in a bit of horror, mainly in the forms of creepypastas and even more so, SCP. As you could probably guess, I'm drawn to the more sci-fi examples of the former, and SCP is primarily sci-fi/cosmic horror. I've considered writing my own SCPs and if I do, I'll be posting about them here.

I'm sure there are other things I'll post about too, but these are the main categories of things you can expect here. If you're into any of these things, you might want to stick around, and if you do, then welcome!
